This in-depth evaluation is key to gaining an accurate picture of your strengths and areas for improvement with regards to communication. In this was, we can precisely determine appropriate short-term and long-term goals for treatment or accent coaching.
speech therapy
Our speech therapy sessions are generally 30-60 minutes 1-2 times weekly and address your specific needs. Below are some of our areas of expertise:
Dysarthria: Genetic disorders, physical or neurological injury can result in speech which is difficult to understand. We are experts in improving clarity of speech in these cases via increasing the functional stability of the oral mechanism while practicing sounds, words, sentences, and conversation, deploying a variety of evidence-based therapy techniques.
Articulation: Many adults continue to have difficulties in producing sounds such as “r”, “s”, “sh”, and “ch”, among others, despite receiving years of speech therapy as children. Because All Clear Speech Therapy specializes in addressing underlying stability issues which can contribute to persistent misarticulations, we are often able to succeed where other therapists have not: in finally allowing you to produce all speech sounds clearly and correctly.
Voice: Are you always hoarse or do you lose your voice frequently? You may be suffering from a voice disorder. In consultation with an otolaryngologist (ENT), Simone can assist you in improving vocal care and quality.
Stuttering: Frequent repetitions of sounds, syllables and words that interfere with communication and lead you to become frustrated, embarrassed and give up on communication attempts may be indicative of stuttering. Our therapists can help you by training you to employ strategies to achieve smoother speech.
Social Skills: Stuggles with the back-and-forth of conversation, staying on-topic when being asked questions or in conversation, telling about past experiences in a way listeners can understand, or having difficulties connecting with other people and “reading” social situations may indicate a pragmatic or social language disorder. This may or may not be associated with a diagnosis of autism. We can help you develop and hone the higher-level social language skills that are so critical to finding and keeping employment, friends, and a life-partner.
Bilingual speech and language services: Diagnosing and treating communication disorders in bilingual and multilingual speakers is a complex process, as it must be determined whether the you are experiencing the typical difficulties everyone encounters when speaking a language which is not native to them or whether the communication difficulties are due to a speech or language disorder. At All Clear Speech Therapy, we are both bilingual ourselves and experts in diagnosing and treating speech and language disorders in the bilingual population.
Accent Coaching
Accent coaching, also known as accent modification or accent reduction, is not the same as speech therapy, since having an accent is NOT a disability. However, the extensive training in and experience with pronunciation and linguistics that speech pathologists receive gives us a head-start in providing excellent accent coaching services. Simone is a PESL-certified accent coach and provides both standard PESL accent courses and specialized accent training, beyond the PESL course. Find out more about our Accent Coaching Services.
